age of five Dick Zimmerman received a Brownie Hawkeye camera from his father. Fascinated by this camera and intrigued by being able to record& stop moments in time he became totally obsessed with the concept to a point where the camera never left his side to a point of sleeping with it under his pillow. Little did he know the impact that camera would have and the success it would ultimately bring to his life.

Zimmerman, a native of New York studied at Parsons school of Design, The school of Visual Arts to study Advertising and Graphic Design, received his B of A Degree at NYU, and then studied fine art with contemporary master , Isaac Sawyer. He began his career as an Editorial art Director for such magazines as "Woman's Day", "Redbook", and " Status Magazine" which was recognized as the best -designed magazine in the nation for the following two years. . Dick then became the youngest creative Director for "McCalls" Magazine. It was at this stage where Dick Started to incorporate his own photographic images into the magazines format and shortly after was sought out by other magazines and Ad agencies and thus a freelance career as a full time Photographer had begun.

In December of 69' and looking to expand his creative viewpoints he decided to leave NY and open a studio in London where the innovation, creativity and spontaneity permeated the arts. He opened a studio in the trendy area of London, Chelsea and became one of the top fashion photographers in Europe. For six years, he created images for the top fashion magazines and ad agencies throughout Europe as well as in the music industry for such artists as David Bowie and the Rolling Stones.

In 76' Dick arrived in Los Angeles with a very sophisticated European portfolio and opened a studio creating a new style of celebrity photography incorporating his high fashion European style into the entertainment industry. His techniques made him the most sought after photographer in Hollywood shooting celebrities for ad campaigns, album covers, magazines, movie posters and publicity photographs. He was hailed as the" image maker" And if you needed an image for a celebrity Dick would either enhance the current one or create one in a new direction.

As his high profile client list expanded, Dick Zimmerman became a celebrity himself. Often labeled by the press as "the most photographed photographer" Dick is currently interviewed for many magazines, newspapers and has been featured on over 60 television shows such as "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, "A Current Affair" and "Entertainment Tonight".

In addition to his studio in Los Angeles Dick has opened a studio on the east coast allowing him new opportunities to work out of New York, Atlanta, Tampa and Nashville.

While maintaining his work for ad agencies, magazines, the music and entertainment industries, and large corporations and a video/ film production company, writing three books, conducting photographic seminars, and a touring museum. He is also creating a new technique of very special commissioned photographic portraitures on canvas; he calls it "Painting with light".
